Finally, it appears there is a small crack in Twitter’s dominance as the quick posts and reactions platform.
Compared to Facebook, with a still impressive 320 million active users, Twitter has been the place to go to for President Trump’s impromptu comments and other political news personalities.
The week, there have been a lot of people, on Twitter, posting about their new accounts on their competitor called, Parler.
According to Mediate, over 500,000 new people created accounts on the social media platform, Parler, this week, after Twitter banned two conservative accounts Tuesday.
In addition, popular podcaster, and political commentator Dan Bongino bought into Parler, proving cash flow and acting as a magnet to recruit popular national figures to the platform.
Parler’s user base increased by 50% this week, bringing the total number of users to over 1.5 million. The surge comes after Twitter permanently banned the account of Carpe Donktum, and locked the account of The National Pulse Editor-In-Chief Raheem Kassam. Both accounts, which were locked Tuesday, have over 200,000 followers.
The surge brings the two-year-old platform’s total number of users to 1.5 million, according to data provided by the company, an increase of 50 percent. The company, co-founded in 2018 by John Matze and Jared Thomson, bills itself as a “non-biased free speech” alternative to Twitter that applies broadcast standards to content its users publish — meaning it doesn’t censor political speech, but does prohibit certain content, such as hardcore pornography, that Twitter permits.
Conservatives, who were already frustrated with Twitter for what they say is arbitrary and unfair banning of right-wing accounts, flocked to Parler after the two accounts were suspended. Republican Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and Republican Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz both joined the platform.
Technology companies shouldn’t be able to put their thumb on the scale and reshape speech in our country. Features of the technology should apply equally to people regardless of viewpoint.

Sure 1.5 million is not too impressive when compared to Twitter’s 320 million, but when 500,000 users jump on board in only 3 days, it might not take long before PARLER is a household name too.
