Minneapolis, a once blue-collar city, who loved their Vikings, shopping at their Mall Of America, and fishing at any of the 10,000 lakes in the state of Minnesota.
As with several aging democratic cities, the Gen X generation of these cities started leaning left and raised their children trying to give them everything so they did not experience any unhappiness.
Since this attempt failed, their children, now in their 20’s are not happy with the reality of life, “You can always get want you want”, and have adopted the Marxist teachings from their schools and universities. They want the government to fix all the wrongs in their communities and make sure everyone wins and has the same.
In massive hypocrisy, these same democratic mayors and governors, increased public assistance to the black communities, instead of developing and nurturing a thriving economy that everyone could benefit from. The results, increasing poverty, homelessness, and violence in these areas as their lack of hope and of economic investment has left their neighborhoods without good-paying jobs.
On rare occasions when businesses have tried to open, they were robbed, vandalized, and at times their employees were physically assaulted or even killed.
Policing becomes more difficult, and with the increasing crime, shootings, and murder with guns, the officers shooting and deaths of black citizens have increased, but nothing compared to the black on black shooting statistics.
Now enters in the younger progressive city council members, who have decided after the death of George Floyd while in police custody, to step and in fix all the problems, as Marxist driven government officials should do.
Massive riots broke out for weeks which lead to the Minneapolis city council to, on June 12, 2020, voted unanimously to support a pledge to abolish the police. In response, several officers retired, moved to different cities to get a policing job, or simply left the profession.
Now as crime has skyrocketed, the same Minneapolis city council, which unanimously supported a pledge to abolish the police, is now asking, “Where are the police?”
Minnesota Public Radio (MPR) reported that the city council met with Minneapolis’ head of police on Tuesday: “Just months after leading an effort that would have defunded the police department, City Council members at Tuesday’s work session pushed Chief Medaria Arradondo to tell them how the department is responding to the violence.”
Newly elected council member Jamal Osman said, “Residents are asking, ‘Where are the police?’”
Osman added, “That is the only public safety option they have at the moment. MPD. They rely on MPD. And they are saying they are nowhere to be seen.”
Council President Lisa Bender suggested police are intentionally not arresting people. She claimed, “This is not new, but it is very concerning in the current context.”
Arradondo did say over 100 officers have left the department this year, including those who have taken leave, and MPR notes that is “more than double the usual number of officers who either step down from the department or who are inactive each year.”
Fourth Ward council member Phillipe Cunningham expressed surprise that council members who had so recently supported doing away with the police department were now calling on the police to be doing more. He suggested the focus should instead be on using money taken from the police budget to hire “violence interrupters” and put them in place to prevent crime in the first place.
Hold on citizens of Minneapolis, unless you stand up and vote these snowflakes out of office, things will continue to decline precipitously, with no on to blame bu yourselves.
