Los Angeles Sheriff Alex Villanueva called on LeBron James to match and double the reward money collected to find the shooter of two LA officers who were ambushed last weekend in Compton. The officers were sitting in their vehicle when a suspect approached and opened fire on the two officers, critically injuring both of them.
The following video shows the moment the officers were fired on, followed by a video showing both of them out fo the vehicles awaiting aid.
According to Villanueva, the reward money was at $175,000, an amount easy to match and double by multimillionaire Lakers athlete.
“This challenge is to LeBron James. I want you to match that and double that reward,” Villanueva said. “I know you care about law enforcement. You expressed a very interesting statement about your perspective on race relations and on officer-involved shootings and the impact that it has on the African-American community.
President Trump and Democrat presidential nominee Joe Biden contacted Villanueva’s office to express his condolences and support:
LeBron has been very vocal about his views police relations with the public.
