Vice President Mike Pence gave a poignant message to Democrats who attacked Amy Coney Barrett for her faith.
The Supreme Court nominee has been accosted for her faith since her confirmation to the 7th Circuit Court of appeals in 2017, most notably with Sen. Feinstein, D-Calif., telling Barrett, “the dogma lives loudly within you and that is of concern.”
Such a reference from the ranking member of the Senate Judiciary Committee is highly unprofessional, not to mention it borders on the line of a religious test – a component of a confirmation process prohibited by the 6th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.
On Wednesday, Vice President Mike Pence didn’t skirt the opportunity to use Feinstein’s own words against her and those who have been taking cheap shots against Barrett for her committed faith.
“During Judge Amy Coney Barrett’s last confirmation hearing the Democrat chairman of the Judiciary committee criticized her Catholic faith, saying “The dogma lives loudly within you.” Hollywood elites have already begun to criticize her and her family for their faith.”
Pence followed up with a second tweet:
“I’ve got news for the Democrats & Hollywood elites: That dogma lives loudly in me. That dogma lives loudly in you. And the American people have the right to live, to work, and worship according to the dictates of our faith. The attacks on Judge Barrett’s faith must stop!”
The vice president isn’t the only political leader who has seen a problem with these unmerited and inappropriate attacks towards the Supreme Court nominee.
Sen. Josh Hawley, R–Mo., penned an aggressive letter to Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., rebuking Democrats for these attacks.
“There is a long history of anti-Catholic hatred by some in this country, and a growing tide of anti-religious animus on the Left now, and I hope you and your colleagues will not play any further part in it.”
The hearings for Amy Coney Barrett’s confirmation to the Supreme Court are scheduled for October 12 – 22.
