Eyewitness reports of what should be a fun concern were of people filled with stories of young men filled with rage, who had been stampeded through the area all day and then panicked a massive crowd by pushing and shoving- to the point where people were crushed to death.
CNN reported:
At least eight people were killed and many others injured after a crowd surged forward while rapper Travis Scott was on stage at the Astroworld Festival in Houston on Friday night.
The incident occurred when the crowd surged towards the stage, crushing those at the front who were unable to escape, local fire chief Sam Peña told CNN Saturday morning. That sparked panic, and the situation worsened and overwhelmed security personnel there, he said.”

Astroworld issued a statement on Instagram on Saturday morning that said: “Our hearts are with the Astroworld festival family tonight — especially those we lost and their loved ones.
“We are focused on supporting local officials however we can. With that in mind the festival will no longer be held on Saturday [..] Thank you to our partners at the Houston Police Department, Fire Department and NRG Park for their response and support.”
The crowd was already out of control earlier in the day, around 2 pm. Posts show hundreds of people stampeding through the area.

“The worst of the incident began around 9:15 pm when the crowd of approximately 50,000 concert-goers began to move toward the front of the stage, according to Houston Fire Chief Samuel Peña.
“The crowd began to compress toward the front of the stage, and people began to panic,” Peña said.
The view from SkyEye overhead Friday night showed the heavy police and fire department activity in the event area as organizers ended it early. The organizers, rapper Travis Scott and LiveNation, stopped the show when it was apparent that multiple people were hurt, according to Houston Police Chief Troy Finner.”
Eyewitness accounts from one woman who was in despair over the fact that the organizers would not stop the concert and help people, even while people died.
