On Friday, Tom Norton had some exciting news about his campaign for US House; he had received the endorsement of three-star general Michael Flynn. Flynn is the former National Security Advisor for President Donald J. Trump.
Norton made the announcement on Twitter, and I got a chance to talk to him briefly about the exciting news.
“I am honored and excited. I am eager to get to work in DC and I have been out there working very hard to get the opportunity to do that,” Norton told me. “Fundraising is an important part of the process and I brought the numbers in that people wanted to see, and I have been getting a lot of solid support from the voters. Everything looks encouraging right now”
“We will be putting out the official press release after the weekend,” Norton told me.
I am honored to receive General Flynn's endorsement.

Flynn’s endorsement is seen as pivotal for a candidate.
Norton is an Afghanistan veteran who is running to replace Peter Meijer in Michigan’s 3rd congressional district as one of Meijer’s first official actions after being elected was to vote to impeach President Donald J. Trump, which altered Norton to get back into the race and replace Meijer.
Meijer and Norton, who are friends, had faced off in 2020 to replace Justin Amash after Amash voted to impeach Trump and fell out of favor in the district.
Immediately after hearing that Meijer would vote to impeach Trump, Norton said he would challenge his old friend, Meijer.
Representative Peter Meijer, a freshman congressman from Michigan, was one of 10 Republicans who voted to impeach President Trump. He spoke to The Daily about his decision to break from the rest of his party.https://t.co/spvyEvSKJM

In fact, North was the first candidate to raise a primary challenge for the 10 Republicans who betrayed the Republican base, voting against Trump in what most people felt were baseless charges.
Norton made his announcement on the War Room Pandemic podcast to Steve Bannon. The Detroit News covered that story in January.
Norton slammed Meijer at the time and told Bannon, “when you sit there and you launch a campaign saying you’re going to defend the president, and one of your first votes to impeach the president without a real process, you destroy the trust with voters.”
Meijer cast his vote to impeach, saying that while it may have been “political suicide,” it was what he felt was needed for accountability and the good of the nation, especially after Trump took no responsibility for inciting the riot.
“If he hadn’t held that rally, if he hadn’t lied to those who trusted him about a massive ‘stolen’ election, and hadn’t lied and said that this was the time that they could change the results of that election, then five people wouldn’t be dead today,” Meijer told The Detroit News after the vote last week.
Meijer also said that a primary challenge was “to some extent, going to be inevitable,” but he stood by his vote.

Even Meijer’s sister prefers Norton to her brother. I covered the story for Gateway Pundit of Meijer’s sister, who went out of her way to support Norton after feeling betrayed by her brother’s impeachment vote.
