President Donald J. Trump is being evaluated by Americans during his second national convention, after his contentious first Republican convention when the GOP fought his nomination as hard as the Democrats did, and with the consultant class cheering the announcement by Jeff Roe, the campaign manager for Sen. Ted Cruz Presidential Campaign at a Politico event in Cleveland the morning after Trump’s acceptance speech, that he and a group of people would invent a new GOP, should Trump win the election.
Roe, the founder of @axiomstrategies, the largest GOP campaign firm in the country, said then that his new GOP would be like the “Party of Lincoln”. Yes, he said that before Trump was even elected, and Roe and his band of “Never Trumpers” are completely discredited and exposed now, they just never understood the American voter. They didn’t even take the American voter into account actually.
Roe’s “new GOP” just never got off the ground, Roe chose to make money running some candidates on Trump’s messaging and branding and stay in business as a Consultant.
However, other pouters did start what the called the “Lincoln Project” led by a GOP consultant class member, Rick Wilson.
Trump tweeted about them in May:
That same wealthy consultant class always had great representation at the party level, redirecting resources from the work of the grassroots, to their favored candidates, in fact there was so much infighting in the GOP State Party level over the Never Trump’s interference, that the party was almost completely ineffective in State and local elections in 2018, playing right into the hands of the Democrats, and the party was bleeding active members, until recently.
A stroll around the Twitter timeline of Rick Wilson gives the feeling that the “GOP consultant” is far more comfortable in the furthest, leftist swampiest crowd.
Perhaps that was the plan after all?
A recent Op-ed for The Federalist, John David Daniel wrote “When the Republican Party formally nominated Donald Trump four years ago at the national convention in Cleveland, I thought the GOP was making huge mistake. It seemed Trump would certainly lose in November, and that every Republican officeholder who climbed aboard the Trump train that summer would be purged from whatever came after his inevitable defeat. It would be the end of the GOP as we knew it. I was wrong about all of that—and in hindsight, I’m glad I was wrong.”
Daniel is a recovering “Never Trumper”.
The Never Trumpers are much closer aligned to the left and to Globalists, allied with the left, as in the case of Rick Wilson a frequent guest on Leftist Media like MSNBC, driving other members of the Republican party crazy with their losing tactics for campaigns and GOP party business.
However, in 2020, President Trump’s Populist base is driving the Consultant class crazy. Turn around is fair play.
According to Rasmussen contributor, Pat Buchanan, that is a good thing.
“Globalism has been relegated to the ash heap of history as our populist president trashed the Trans-Pacific Partnership, the Iran nuclear deal, and the Paris climate accords, and began to impose tariffs on countries that have looted America’s manufacturing base,” Buchanan said.
The grassroots of the GOP are inspired by American Sovereignty. Globalism is on the “Ash heap” because of Trump and that is why Trump enjoys tremendous support now from the GOP, having lost the Never Trumpers, and gained new supporters.
The New “Trump” GOP is so much bolder in messaging, branding, and PR. They make more connections, directly with people, and gone are the borind days of candidaly flating speaking about policy and nothing else.
This week’s RNC is the perfect example of how Trump has remade the GOP into a winning machine.
