The day after the most deadly attack in the Israel-Hamas conflict, two Senators with starkly different points of view spoke on the floor of the US Senate. A Democrat who wants to pressure Democrat Joe Biden to get back into Iran and given the country;s leaders more money so that America is funding the terrorist government at war with Israel, and a Republican who tells Biden to stand strong with America’s allies in Israel.
COMPARE AND CONTRAST
In Senate floor remarks, Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT) made his case for why the Iran Deal was superior to foreign policy than President Trump’s “maximum pressure” strategy in dealing with Iran’s goal of creating a nuclear bomb.
Murphy hinted that Biden had a mandate to return to the Iran deal and provide wealth to Iran, who is now the Hamas government of Palestinian people.
Curiously, Murphy, recently, had to defend himself over meeting with Iran leader when President Donald J. Trump had been in office.
From Feb 19, 2020 media reports:
Murphy, with hatred and mockery in his voice for President Donald J. Trump, ripped into and called his foreign policy for the area a “fantasy” and demanded that people in the area were getting along fine, and it was Trump’s agenda that caused problems.
A top Iranian commander has expressed support for the Palestinian Hamas, making sense because Iran has long had Israel in their sites for war.
Murphy confirmed the meeting with Mohammed Javad Zarif in a Medium post.
Trump expressed confusion over the meeting as he boarded Air Force One on Tuesday.
“I saw Senator Murphy met with the Iranians, is that a fact?” Trump asked reporters, adding, “I just saw that on the way over. Is there anything I should know? Because that sounds like, to me, a violation of the Logan Act.”
“What happened with that?” Trump continued. “They ought to find out about if it’s true. I don’t know.”
While Republican Mitch McConnell n Senate floor remarks, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) slammed Hamas, praised Israel, and told President Biden to “remain strong against the growing voices within his own party that create false equivalence between terrorist aggressors and a responsible state defending itself.”
“Hamas unleashed another barrage of rockets into civilian areas, and Isreal destroyed nets of the terrorist group. Hama killed a 5-year-old boy, in a start violation of the rules of war have placed targets in residential areas. The idea that we are watching two legitimate groups at war is ridiculous. To say that both sides need to de-escalate is wrong. I object to the obscene moral equivalent. One member of the house is saying Isreal is an apartheid state. Hamas is a terrorist group, “McConnell said.
McConnell said to remain strong against the pro-Hamas terrorist government.
