Jack Nicklaus, ‘The Gold Bear’, an iconic American sportsman, great businessman, and honored humanitarian made an announcement, Wednesday, that he fully supports President Donald J. Trump for re-election.
“Through the years, I have been blessed to personally know several Presidents on both sides of the aisle. All were good people. All loved their country. And all believed in the American Dream,” Nicklaus said.
“I have had the privilege over the last 3 1/2 years to get to know our current President a little more as his term has progressed,” Nicklaus continued. “I have been very disappointed at what he’s had to put up with from many directions, but with that, I have seen a resolve and a determination to do the right thing for our country. He has delivered on his promises. He’s worked for the average person. In my opinion, he has been more diverse than any president in our history and has tried to help people of all walks of life- equally,” the statement read. (Full statement below)
According to the Golf Channel, Nicklaus’ just happened upon his nickname, as the story goes, according to his wife:
“Jack made a trip to Australia, got off the plane and there was – how they used to have newspapers stacked in the airport – the headline said, ‘Golden Bear from U.S. to Arrive Today.’ We went, ‘That’s it.’
“The high school he went to was the Upper Arlington Golden Bears. And so he said, ‘Well, I’ve been a Golden Bear all my life. I might as well continue to be a Golden Bear.’”
Jack and Barbara have always given credit to Australian sportswriter Don Lawrence for coining the nickname.
Says Barbara, “It’s been a great logo.”
Jack Nicklaus is, simply put, the greatest champion in golf history. His record of achievement and sustained excellence within the game are unmatched,” wrote Nicklaus’ biographer.
“Jack was recognized as golfer of the 20th Century or Golfer of the Millennium by almost every major golf publication and media outlet in the world. He was named Individual Male Athlete of the Century by Sports Illustrated and one of the 10 Greatest Athletes of the Century by ESPN. Jack has 120 professional tournament victories worldwide, and his major championship record remains unequalled: 18 professional major championship titles (six Masters, five PGA Championships, four U.S. Opens, three Open Championships).”
Nicklaus’ Biographer wrote:
“As a global ambassador, businessman, acclaimed course designer and tireless philanthropist, Jack has used his success as a platform and vehicle for the greater good of others. This includes a 50-year commitment to the health and welfare of children. In 2004, he co-founded with his wife Barbara the Nicklaus Children’s Health Care Foundation. The Foundation has raised over $100 million in less than 15 years, and their impact has led to the rebranding of renowned Miami Children’s Hospital and Miami Children’s Health System to Nicklaus Children’s. The hospital has cared for children from 119 countries and all 50 states in the union, and the Nicklaus Children’s Health System includes 16 outpatient and urgent care centers.”
“Because of his transcendental career and life, Jack Nicklaus is the first sportsman and only the fourth person in history to be awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom (2005), Congressional Gold Medal (2015) and the Lincoln Medal (2018).”
What a great endorsement! What a great American.
