Most of the stories on social media which appear to be getting most people’s attention, on Sunday and Monday, have to do with the increasing military presence in Washington DC around the US Capitol, the political vetting of the National Guard troops in DC, and about Chris Miller appointing Michael Ellis to the NSA as general counsel, and also about how Democrats are attempting to bring acting Defense Secretary, Chris Miller, under control.
Jack Posobiec, an OANN correspondent posted a confirmation on his Twitter timeline:
Pelosi and Schumer put major pressure on DOD to ‘vet’ the troops in DC for pro-Trump sentiments – Senior defense source
— Jack Posobiec 🇺🇸 (@JackPosobiec) January 18, 2021
Reports of Democrats Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer demanding the investigation of each Troop for suspicious “Trump support” started to circulate over the weekend with rumors of troops being questions about the political allegiance and continued into Monday afternoon with Pelosi’s demands of Miller.
The left began to propagandize the storyline that the National Guard was “White Supremacists” and “Violent Trump supporters” with National legacy media promoting stories about troops’ vetting, 2 and 3 times over.
So the Democrats began the week claiming that Trump supporters were going to attack them, then that Republican lawmakers were going to attack them, and started a new week with claims that the National Guard would attack them.
Both the Associated Press and NBC news carried such stories.
@FBI is vetting 25,000 @NationalGuard troops guarding WashingtonDC. The #RootCause of #WhiteSupremacy in the military is our culture not Trump! @TimothyDSnyder @JoeBiden @KamalaHarris @ltgrusselhonore @SpeakerPelosi @SenSchumer @MittRomney @katiecouric https://t.co/BI5zZtsGZY

And by Monday morning, the left had established their talking points for cable news to demonize the National Guard for being “White men,” as seen in the following CNN video clip:

A reporter posted confirmation of the vetting of the National Guard at the demands of Pelosi and Schumer:
“21,500 National Guard troops on the ground in DC, per @USNationalGuard. Guard judge advocate briefed troops on mission rules and guidelines while in DC. Some will be sworn in as special police at the Capitol charged with protecting lawmakers and securing the grounds. On vetting Guard troops: “The DC National Guard is providing additional training to service members as they arrive in DC that if they see or hear something that is not appropriate, they should report it to their chain of command. There is no place for extremism in the military.”
“If there’s any indication that any of our soldiers or airmen are expressing things that are extremist views, it’s either handed over to law enforcement or dealt with the chain of command immediately,” said Gen. Daniel R. Hokanson, chief of the National Guard Bureau,” Abbie Bennett posted.

Miller responded on Twitter:
“This type of vetting often takes place by law enforcement for significant security events. However, in this case the scope of military participation is unique.”

Pelosi is also upset about Miller’s actions, appointing Micahel Ellis to the position of general counsel for the NSA. And Pelosi is not having any of it.
Sunday, Pelosi sent Miller a letter and then on Monday posted a second demand, in a press release, to Miller that he stop doing what he has the legal authority to do.
According to her office, this is the press release:
Pelosi Sends Letter to Acting Defense Secretary Miller demanding a halt to Attempts to Install Unqualified NSA General Counsel Candidate.
JANUARY 18, 2021 PRESS RELEASE
Washington D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi sent a letter late yesterday to Acting Department of Defense Secretary Christopher C. Miller demanding an immediate halt to the improper process of installing unqualified Trump-loyalist Michael Ellis as the new National Security Agency General Counsel 72 hours before the beginning of the new Administration.
In the letter, the Speaker wrote, “Public reporting indicates that Mr. Ellis, a relatively recent law school graduate with a limited resume, was selected due to interference by the White House, and was chosen over much more qualified candidates. Moreover, Mr. Ellis has been reportedly involved in highly questionable activities that are disqualifying – including the infamous 2017 ‘midnight run’ to launder intelligence information through Rep. Devin Nunes and with efforts to shield information about President Trump’s July 2019 call with the President of Ukraine.”
“The NSA General Counsel, which involves supervising many intelligence community attorneys and interacting with intelligence agencies, is a highly sensitive career position for which candidates are selected, based on merit and free from political influence,” Speaker Pelosi continued. “If Mr. Ellis did go through the traditional civil service hiring process, I request a detailed account of that process, to understand how someone with his credentials was chosen over other qualified candidates.”
Below is the full text of the letter to the Acting Defense Secretary:

Mr. Christopher C. Miller
Acting Secretary
U.S. Department of Defense
Washington, D.C. 20301
Dear Acting Secretary Miller:
I am writing to follow up on my phone conversation with you earlier today. I expressed my deep concern about the irregularities involved in selecting the General Counsel of the National Security Agency (NSA). I ask that you immediately cease plans to improperly install Michael Ellis as the new NSA General Counsel. Additionally, with a copy of this letter to the Acting Inspector General, I am also requesting an investigation into the NSA General Counsel selection process circumstances. I have serious concerns about your statement that this process was free from political interference.
Public reporting indicates that Mr. Ellis, a relatively recent law school graduate with a limited resume, was selected due to the White House’s interference and was chosen over much more qualified candidates. Moreover, Mr. Ellis has been reportedly involved in highly questionable activities that are disqualifying – including the infamous 2017 “midnight run” to launder intelligence information through Rep. Devin Nunes and with efforts to shield information about President Trump’s July 2019 call with the President of Ukraine.
The NSA General Counsel, which involves supervising many intelligence community attorneys and interacting with intelligence agencies, is a highly sensitive career position for which candidates are selected, based on merit and free from political influence. If Mr. Ellis did go through the traditional civil service hiring process, I request a detailed account of that process to understand how someone with his credentials was chosen over other qualified candidates. The circumstances and timing – immediately after President Trump’s defeat in the election – of the selection of Mr. Ellis and this eleventh-hour effort to push this placement in the last three days of this Administration are highly suspect. Further, the efforts to install him or “burrow” him into a highly sensitive intelligence position 72 hours before the beginning of a new Administration manifest a disturbing disregard for our national security. Therefore, this placement should not move forward.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
best regards,
NANCY PELOSI
Speaker of the House
