A number of Republican state lawmakers have made national news recently, by being more proactive in defense of civil liberties than the GOP is accustomed to seeing. One state lawmaker in NC is rising to national interest for his tireless fight against a far-left radical Democrat Governor.
It has been over 450 days. The people of North Carolina deserve to know when the state of emergency will end.
Republican NC State House of Rep. member Keith Kidwell (R-Beaufort, Craven) is a leading Conservative for his state. He has worked on numerous measures to roll back Cooper’s power grab over the pandemic, which has taken North Carolina to its knees over the last year and a half with some of the country’s most oppressive COVID measures. Many of which just happened to help Cooper get re-elected in the 2020 election, with a massive mail-in ballot harvesting scheme.
Measures Kidwell has taken to bring Cooper into compliance with his authority over the people of North Carolina include House Bill 264, “Emergency Powers Accountability Act.”
On Tuesday, Kidwell was joined by Rep. John Bell (Green, Johnson, Wayne), who released a letter to Cooper demanding answers about his behavior.
Bell on Facebook wrote, “The people of North Carolina deserve to know. It’s time to end the state of emergency!”
The two have had enough of watching Cooper, who refuses to abide by his own executive order on masking, force demands on the people of North Carolina.
(Cooper was spotted recently at a hockey game without a mask, which he requires for others)
Bell wrote on Facebook:
“Today, I, along with Representative Keith Kidwell, called on Gov. Cooper to provide specific details on what “metrics and data” need to be met for his nearly fifteen months long state of emergency to come to an end. Just yesterday, the South Carolina Governor announced an end to its COVID-19 state of emergency. The Virginia Governor also said recently that he will not extend its emergency declaration when it expires on June 30th. There seems to be no urgency or plan from Gov. Cooper to end North Carolina’s state of emergency. This is deeply concerning – and the people of North Carolina deserve answers.”
NBC News reported on the letter:
After more than 450 days, NCGOP lawmakers are wondering when Gov. Cooper will end state of emergency
“On March 10, 2020, Gov. Roy Cooper declared a state of emergency as a step in North Carolina’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
After more than 450 days, some Republican lawmakers in the state are wondering when the governor will end the emergency declaration.
“The health and safety of North Carolinians is our top priority. We are taking the necessary steps to ensure that North Carolina is prepared and responding to this virus, and this order helps us do that,” Cooper said after making the declaration. “Though we are still in the early stages in North Carolina, time is a valuable resource and we must work together to slow the spread while we can.”
On Tuesday, a letter to Cooper composed by House Majority Leader John Bell (R-Wayne) and House Deputy Majority Whip Keith Kidwell (R-Beaufort) was released.
The two called on him to provide specific details for why the emergency declaration still exists after 15 months.
“North Carolina has now been under a self-declared state of emergency for over 450 days,” the letter states. “In response to a question about ending your emergency order during a June 2 press conference, you said, ‘We are still in the middle of this pandemic’ and ‘The State of Emergency needs to continue.’ We believe this is unsatisfactory,” NBC reported.
