The 1-year-old baby was taken to Summa Akron City Hospital, and the child later died.
Gunfire also hit a man and a woman, who were both hit their lower extremities, according to police. They each were being treated at a hospital for injures that were not life-threatening.
The name of the 1-year-old child is being withheld until after a positive identification. The names of the adults were also not immediately given. The connection between the three shooting victims has not yet been made clear.
No arrests have been made and police don’t even have a suspect description. Detectives are asking the public for help to identify the pickup truck they believe was used by the shooter, which they believe is a Dodge Ram.
The shooting comes after nine individuals were killed in Akron just last month, one of the city’s deadliest months since 2017, according to the Akron Beacon Journal. That’s a third of a Friday night in Chicago.
There have been 30 homicide investigations in the city so far this year, the Beacon Journal reported. Thirty-three murders were investigated in all of 2019 and 32 in 2018. The city’s at 30 now, and there’s five months to go.
