A minimum of 14 people have been wounded following a shootout during a funeral in Chicago’s Gresham neighborhood Tuesday night, police said.
The shooting took place right before 6:30 pm in the 1000 block of West 79th Street, according to officials.
Police said that one person of interest was in custody not long after the incident, but they noted that the shooters weren’t immediately identified.
First Deputy Superintendent Eric Carter said the shooting began when someone in a black vehicle opened fire on individuals attending a funeral on the block. A funeral of a homicide victim. People attending the funeral used their own weapons to fire back and the vehicle crashed halfway down the block, he said. It’s an endless cycle.
Thanks to Mayor Lori Lightfoot and other Democrat city officials Chicago has become the wild wild west.
Fourteen people, all adults, were at five different hospitals following the mass shooting, however, their conditions weren’t known. It was also not clear if all the victims were attending the funeral. The animals in Chicago don’t really care who gets caught in the crossfire.
Chicago Fire Department spokesman Larry Langford said the fire department transported 11 people from the scene, while others had self-transported to various hospitals. Several people are listed in serious or critical condition.
A motive for the shooting wasn’t immediately apparent.
People who live in the area reported hearing gunshots before seeing victims on the street outside of the funeral home.
“All we saw was just bodies laying everywhere,” witness Arnita Geder said at the scene. “Shot up everywhere, all over. Legs, stomach, back, all over the place. We thought it was a war out here.”
“We saw a car with about six bullet holes in it and it was turned facing the grass like he lost control. We saw a hat down on the ground and evidently it was his,” another witness, Kenneth Hughes said.
Both witnesses agreed that everyone who was shot appeared to be wearing white.
“Unfortunately it appears like it was planned because as the people were coming out of the funeral home, then the shots rang out like they were literally waiting on them to come out,” Hughes said.
Chicago police reported a minimum of 60 shell casings were discovered at the scene. They asked that anyone who has knowledge of or saw something during the incident to contact the department.
It reminds me of a Hopsin song called “I Can’t Decide” that he wrote as a young man describing the streets of his neighborhood in California.
In the land of the killing
Better say your prayers tonight
Amen, its hard enough trynna survive
And to top it off I gotta watch my back
Cause these n**gas wanna act up
Should I fight or should I run?
Should I hide or get my gun?
I can’t decide
Folks, that’s what it’s like to live in neighborhoods inside cities that have been run by Democrats for decades, some a hundred years. Progressive policies have created environments of poverty, crime, drugs, etc. When is the vicious cycle going to end? When the people being put in this position use their vote to end it. Nobody deserves to live in that kind of fear. Little kids, our country’s treasure, are being killed what seems like every week now in Chicago.
The incident comes only hours after Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot confirmed that federal agents are being sent to the city to curb violence, but the city doesn’t “see a Portland-style deployment coming.”
Lightfoot said that, as of now, the Trump administration will not be deploying “unnamed agents” to Chicago’s streets. Sure they will, because federal agents don’t have to wear name tags. And they won’t since Democrats have lost control of their cities and ANTIFA losers dox the cops, which puts officers and their families into harm’s way.
Over the weekend, Chicago saw at least 70 people shot, 11 fatally across the city.
Lightfoot’s hatred of Donald Trump – pardon the pub – trumped her urgency of helping stop the violence in her city up to this point. We reported yesterday how the mayor vowed to fight the Trump administration from helping get her city under control to help the people of Chicago neighborhoods who have to live in this nightmare scenario every day. A pastor last night told Fox News’ Laura Ingraham that the people of Chicago neighborhoods can’t go outside at night, because as soon as it gets dark the criminals take over the streets. Lightfoot up to now didn’t care about that, because I’m certain that she lives in a gated community with armed protection around her at all times.
