The SNAFU that is still taking place in Afghanistan is so broad in scope and failure that the Pentagon seems to be throwing the Joe Biden and his White House under the proverbial bus. And the officials running things there are acting like they’re ignorant of what caused the fall of Afghanistan. Who knows, maybe they’re not acting.
If what we’re getting from Daily Mail and the Wall Street Journal are correct, the Pentagon is asserting that Chairman of the Joint Chief’s of Staff General Mark Milley and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin warned President Joe Biden about the probable collapse of Afghanistan if 2,500 troops were removed.
Except, Austin and Milley are on record just a few weeks before the Taliban takeover, saying exactly the opposite.
From the Wall St Journal:
In his Monday speech defending America’s chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan, President Biden said he would not shrink from his share of responsibility.
That would include his decision to bring home U.S. troops, which was made against the recommendations of his top military generals and many diplomats, who warned that a hasty withdrawal would undermine security in Afghanistan, several administration and defense officials said.
The president’s top generals, including Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Army Gen. Mark Milley, urged Mr. Biden to keep a force of about 2,500 troops, the size he inherited, while seeking a peace agreement between warring Afghan factions, to help maintain stability. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, who previously served as a military commander in the region, said a full withdrawal wouldn’t provide any insurance against instability.
In a series of meetings leading up to his decision, military and intelligence officials told Mr. Biden that security was deteriorating in Afghanistan, and they expressed concerns both about the capabilities of the Afghan military and the Taliban’s likely ability to take over major Afghan cities.
Other advisers, including Secretary of State Antony Blinken and national security adviser Jake Sullivan, raised the possibility of Taliban attacks on U.S. forces and diplomats as well as the Afghans who for two decades worked alongside them. (read more)
This is where we are with government personnel, especially this administration’s people, where you have no idea whether you can believe a word they say. Like CDC director Rochelle Walensky, who changes her policies more often than she changes her socks, and has gotten caught manipulating data and lying outright, we now have to wonder if Austin and Milley are being honest with us. You just can’t trust these people.
It’s difficult to deny that Joe Biden is in cognitive decline. But you would hope his people surrounding him would be competent.
Austin recently told reporters that we don’t have the capability of getting Americans out of Afghanistan now, meaning we can’t go into the neighborhoods to reach them and get them to the airport.
We are the United States of America. We absolutely have the capability to go get our people out, but incompetent boobs like Lloyd Austin and Mark Milley don’t want to go through the motions necessary to get them out if it goes against our house plant president. Either they are risk averse or Biden gave them the order to stand down. There’s no other way to see it.
The UK right now as of this writing has troops on the ground getting their people out, yet Austin and Milley are failing our people. And these two clowns know that our troops are making a lot of noise about wanting to go in there and get our people out. They are not afraid to get our people out, but Joe Biden is a coward who is scared of any Taliban resistance that might look bad for him politically.
Say a prayer for the Americans left behind because Joe Biden just thought, “screw em,” and hoped they could get an Uber if they want to get to the airport.
Here’s Milley and Austin testifying specifically to the situation in Afghanistan in June just weeks prior to the Afghan crisis taking place.
Austin and Milley didn’t sound like they believed that the Afghan government collapsing was likely. Their attitude was pretty much the opposite.
On Wednesday, Biden did an interview with the Democratic softball tosser ABC’s George Stephanopoulos who allowed the president to continually deny that he ignored advice from top military officials to keep a certain level of military presence in Afghanistan. Read the full transcript here.
Here’s pretty much how it went:
STEPHANOPOULOS: But your top military advisers warned against withdrawing on this timeline. They wanted you to keep about 2,500 troops.
BIDEN: No, they didn’t. It was split. Tha — that wasn’t true. That wasn’t true.
STEPHANOPOULOS: They didn’t tell you that they wanted troops to stay?
BIDEN: No. Not at — not in terms of whether we were going to get out in a timeframe all troops. They didn’t argue against that.
STEPHANOPOULOS: So no one told — your military advisers did not tell you, “No, we should just keep 2,500 troops. It’s been a stable situation for the last several years. We can do that. We can continue to do that”?
BIDEN: No. No one said that to me that I can recall.
Biden, Austin, and Milley are fully responsible for what’s going on in Afghanistan. They will be fully responsible for any Americans from here on out who are harmed by Taliban terrorists now that the administration is sending signals they’re on their own.
As the blame game is being played, something new just broke. The Trump administration created a new entity in the State Department called the Contingency and Crisis Response Bureau (CCR), that was created so that we never had another Benghazi situation take place where troops were not sent in to save Americans overseas in situations just like what’s going on right now in Afghanistan where Americans are stuck and can’t get out. Remember when Obama said there were no troops nearby to help the four Americans he and Hillary Clinton left to die in Benghazi even though there were units close enough and willing to go? Weeks before the fall of Afghanistan. It is now being alleged that the Biden State Department halted that program just weeks prior to the Afghanistan debacle. Could Biden’s State Department have done that because they knew what was going to happen and didn’t want to be blamed for it, and that enabled them to throw the Pentagon under the bus? If that’s what really happened, then I think we’re going to see a lot of whistleblowers come forward against the sheer incompetence of this administration.
The State Department’s Ned Price just responded to this, claiming they determined that the new bureau would not add anything new that would be worth the cost and he said that they were instead continuing to improve how they would handle such situations. I guess they still have a long way to go, because they just allowed the worst loss of our military since the Vietnam War.
Biden tried to throw former President Donald Trump under a bus by claiming he had a binary choice of either sticking with the Trump plan and getting out of the country by May 1 or sending in more troops. His statement was as disingenuous as it gets, because he did neither. He threw Trump’s plan out the window and gave the order to get the troops out without any regard for Americans still there trying to get out or our Afghan allies who helped the Americans do their jobs while they were there. He had no plan of his own to get our military equipment out or to destroy our forts so that the Taliban couldn’t use them.
Joe Biden once said the buck stops with him, but apparently when the Schiff hit the fan, it looks like the buck never got to him.
