Kate Bedingfield, Joe Biden’s deputy campaign manager, waved off a Politico story that said Senator Kamala Harris (D-CA), is fading away as a possible running mate for the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee.
“I would say to that story don’t believe everything that you read,” Bedingfield told Fox News’ “The Story” host Martha MacCallum on Monday. “Don’t believe everything that you read in Politico.”
That right there tells me there is a rift between Biden and Harris. What she did to him during a primary debate was a desperate attempt to become relevant, and could have possibly cost her the VP slot.
Back in March, Biden vowed that he would pick a woman running mate. Recent unrest and protests over police brutality and racial discrimination have led many political observers to predict Biden will choose a woman of color, akin to Harris, Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms, Representative Val Demings (D-FL) or former National Security Adviser Susan Rice. The only sane choice he made was not considering Stacey Abrams, the failed gubernatorial candidate in Geogia who still thinks she’s governor.
In line with the report, former Senator Chris Dodd (D-CT) who was a key member of Biden’s vice presidential search committee, recently asked Harris about the time she called Biden a racist during a Democratic debate last summer over his opposition to desegregation busing in the 1970s.
Dodd said Harris’ response was to laugh about the incident and said, “That’s politics.”
“She had no remorse,” a longtime Biden supporter and donor told Politico about the exchange. “Dodd felt it was a gimmick, that it was cheap.” The report went on to say that Dodd has put his support behind Congressional Black Caucus Chair Karen Bass (D-CA) for the veep gig.
“I don’t think anybody in the country has a better sense of what it takes to be vice president than Joe Biden,” Bedingfield said. “He’s looking for somebody in this process who can be the kind of partner to him that he was to Barack Obama.”
