Chicago Mayor Vows to Fight Trump Administration From Helping to End Violence in Her City [VIDEO]

On MSNBC’s “the ReidOut” on Monday Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot (D) vowed that she is going to “use every tool” she has to stop the federal government from having federal law enforcement agents operating in Chicago the way they did in Portland and criticized the local Fraternal Order of Police leader as “unhinged” and hungry for attention for his stance on the issue.

This is surreal.  Lightfoot’s city is a war zone for many people.  Double digit murders are what Chicagoans call “The Weekend.”  As mayor, she has implemented tons of gun control programs, and none of them have worked.   We reported that 65 people in Chicago were shot last weekend, and 10 of them were killed.  Lightfoot’s answer to that kind of carnage?  Implement even more gun control.

Remember Albert Einstein’s famous quote, “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results?”  Lori Lightfoot is insane, and yet she refers to the one person with a voice and the courage to use it, the head of the local FOP, who spoke out asking for help from the federal government that has offered help to end the slaughter of Chicagoans, and the mayor calls him the unhinged one.

Lightfoot said, “Well, first of all, as a former federal prosecutor, I know that if resources are brought in to augment existing federal infrastructure under the control and direction of a local U.S. attorney, there might be a value add. But look at what’s happened in Portland. What we have there is no advance notice to the local authorities, no notice to the local U.S. attorneys’ office, and having these armed, camouflaged individuals, with no insignia on, no nameplates, grabbing people off the street. That’s unconstitutional. So, our democracy is at stake, and I’ll be darned if I’m going to let anybody, even if their name is Mr. President, bring those kind of troops to our city and try to take off our residents. That’s not going to happen in Chicago, and if they try it, I’m going to use every tool at my disposal to stop them.”

She added, “We’ve got an unhinged leader of the Fraternal Order of Police, who is craven in trying to get — generate attention. Now, he has asked for that. But reasonable, local police officials, including our superintendent, know that this is a dangerous road for us to go down. We’re not going to have people that don’t know our streets, don’t know our neighborhoods, and then are engaging in clearly unconstitutional conduct, operating at will in our city. That is chaos. That is lawlessness.”

You’re damn right he’s trying to get attention from people who can help end the shootings in a city that is broken thanks to decades of Democrat politicians who have cared more about their own careers than the people they are elected to protect.  Gun control does not work.  It never works.  Criminals do not obey the law, which is why we call them criminals in the first place.  Gun control laws ONLY stop law-abiding citizens from being able to protect themselves.

Lightfoot says that what the Trump administration wants to do is unconstitutional.  No, it’t not.  Donald Trump and Bill Barr are not going to do anything that violates the law where protecting cities that Democrat mayors and government have given up on.

Lightfoot is either stupid, stubborn, or suffers from Trump Derangement Syndrome so bad that she’s vowing to fight against federal help in a hopeless situation because Orange Man Bad.

I am the last person who would argue for federal intervention in a states rights issue, but this has gone too far.  People’s lives, including many beautiful children, are being snuffed out and Lightfoot has lost control of her city.

Unfortunately, there’s no political mechanism for removing a Chicago mayor from office.  The Chicago City Council can’t impeach, and the voters can’t recall.  A felony conviction is the only real way to force a mayor out of office.   And let’s be honest here.  Felonies are pretty common for Chicago politicians.  But in the name of all that his holy, Mayor Lightfoot has to go.  It’s either that or a federal overseer should be placed in Chicago to run the city’s efforts  to end the violence.  It’s not unprecedented.

I remember when a Philadelphia mayor, who took the city bankrupt, had a federal overseer in charge of city finances.  Neither the City Council not the Mayor’s office could spend a single dime without going through and being approved by the Pennsylvania Intergovernmental Cooperation Authority (PICA) board.  Something similar could be done in Chicago to save lives.
