Mayor Bill de Blasio originally said that community leaders would walk “with police officers” into and through the violent areas of the the city this weekend. What could go wrong? But, in the span of just one day, City Hall said “screw that” and backpedaled on the incredibly stupid idea. You may be wondering why.
Here’s how it played out. The leaders of the community were supposed to walk through the violent areas of NYC on what they were calling “violence-prevention walks.” One such walk was to take place through Harlem on Saturday. However, and here’s the kicker, the NYPD wouldn’t be with them to provide protection should any of the “peaceful protesters” get out of line, according to a spokesman for the mayor’s office.
“They are not literally joining patrols. I don’t understand how to make this clearer for you,” said the spokesman, Avery Cohen.
The mayor had stated Friday that NY residents would “see a combination of things happening,” together with “community leaders, community organizations walking with police officers, showing common cause.”
The concept didn’t sit well with the cops on the street.
“We are the police,” one NYPD officer told reporters in Harlem earlier Saturday. “We do patrols. We have a lot of things to take care of here.”
About three score people (that’s 60 for liberals who never paid attention in school) prayed, and some gave speeches during Saturday night’s “Occupy the Corner” event at West 143rd Street and Malcolm X Boulevard.
“People are putting their lives on the line to protect the people who they live with and who they love,” Mayor de Blasio said.
This is nothing short of astonishing. De Blasio allowed the city to explode with violence and crime. Now he wants community leaders to march right through some of the most dangerous spots in the city, with the message that those leaders, without police by their side, are there to stop the violence. Can you imagine the gall of this man to attempt to put people into harm’s way like that?
The worst New York mayor for some time was David Dinkins. The city went to hell in a hand basket under tutelage. But de Blasio is worse than Mayor David Dinkins ever was, because Dinkins was just an incompetent boob, while de Blasio has encouraged hate and violent riots in his city, and like all the other mentally ill elected Democrats across the country, he justified the hate, violence and destruction of his own city by saying it was to stamp out systemic racism. The mayor just participated in a project where he had the words “Black Lives Matter” painted in large yellow letters on the street outside Trump Tower, as some sort of message to our president that everything going on in the city is all somehow his fault. De Blasio believes that that act of defiance in the face of this president relieves him of his own culpability for the deaths and destruction the people of New York City have experienced since the death of George Floyd.
De Blasio is a complete and utter disgrace for New York City. He allowed his police officers to be demoralized long before the riots when he ordered them to not do anything as hundreds of thugs poured water over the heads of uniformed cops while on patrol, degrading their authority on the street, while at the same time emboldening the thugs to ramp things up against police officers.
If there is some law that de Blasio could be charged to bring accountability for what he has willingly allowed to happen over the past month, I think someone above his pay grade should get on that as soon as possible, lest the people of NYC lose faith in government.
