The police involved in the shooting of Jacob Blake that sparked the recent wave of anti-police sentiment across the nation, were actually trying to arrest him for violating a restraining order stemming from an alleged sexual assault.
Blake, 29, was forbidden from going to the Kenosha house of his alleged victim from a May 3 incident, and police had been dispatched Sunday following a 911 call saying he was there. The officers had been aware he had an open warrant, according to dispatch records, though it’s not clear if they knew the specific allegations of violence.
Blake, was paralyzed from the shooting and was handcuffed to his hospital bed because of a warrant for his arrest, That warrant was vacated on Friday, according to a statement released by his lawyer, Benjamin Crump. His restraints were removed, but he’s nonetheless facing the criminal charges, Crump said.
Blake is accused in the criminal complaint, of breaking into the home of a woman he knew and sexually assaulting her.
The victim, who is only identified by her initials in the paperwork, informed police she was asleep in bed with one of her kids when Blake came into the room around 6 a.m. and allegedly said “I want my sh-t,” the record states.
She told police that Blake then used his finger to sexually assault her, sniffed it and said, “Smells like you’ve been with other men,” the criminal complaint alleges.
The officer who took her statement said she “had a very difficult time telling him this and cried as she told how the defendant assaulted her.”
The alleged victim said Blake “penetrating her digitally caused her pain and humiliation and was done without her consent” and she was “very humiliated and upset by the sexual assault,” the report says.
She told police she “was upset but collected herself” after which she allegedly ran out the front door after Blake, the complaint says. She then realized her automobile was missing, checked her purse and saw the keys were missing and then “immediately called 911,” the complaint alleges.
Blake’s alleged victim told police she has known him for about eight years and she admitted that he physically assaults her “around twice a year when he drinks heavily.” Anyone who beats on a woman is a scumbag in my view.
Police filed charges on Blake for felony sexual assault, trespassing, and domestic abuse back in July when a warrant was issued for his arrest.
On Sunday, in only three minutes after responding to the 911 call, Blake was shot 7 times in the back while he tried to get into his SUV. He defied lawful order from police to stop as he was marching around the other side of his vehicle.
Blake Resisted Arrest
On Tuesday, we reported that as new video revealed Blake resisting arrest before he broke free from police in a scuffle and walked around the SUV to get inside, and on Thursday, we reported that Blake admitted to officials that he had a knife on the floorboard of the driver’s side of his vehicle.
Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul declined to elaborate on preliminary particulars or on when the knife was recovered.
In the press release issued by the Wisconsin DOJ, they are saying Blake’s knife admission was made “during the investigation following the initial incident.”
“As the release stated, he acknowledged he had a knife in his possession at some point,” Kaul said.
In the beginning of this incident it was believed that cops shot Blake for no reason at all. More and more it’s becoming clearer that the officers on the scene followed protocol and tried to subdue the angry young man who didn’t want to be arrested. Apparently, they thought he was going for a weapon when he defied their orders to stop, and continued to walk around his vehicle, then opened the door reaching for something. In that moment, anyone can speculate that the cops thought he was reaching for a weapon. He had just resisted arrest, walked away from police, went into his car and began looking around for something. The cops were there to respond to a call for a domestic dispute, and they knew at the time that he had warrants.

Sounds like a pretty clear case, but we’ll have to wait and see how the investigation turns out.
