On Tuesday, House minority leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) released a statement that the House GOP opposes House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-CA) January 6 commission legislation because of bad-faith negotiations. The Democrats and their boot-licking sycophants in the mainstream news media will argue that the GOP is against such a commission because they don’t want the truth to come out about the January 6 riot, but the reality is they are fighting to make sure that the truth really does get discussed.
Republicans are not afraid to point out that many Republican Trump supporters were involved in the January 6 riot. They just don’t want Pelosi and other lying Democrats to embellish on what really happened on January 6 as they have called a two-and-a-half-hour riot an “insurrection” and it’s that kind of wild hyperbole that McCarthy wants to put to bed before the commission even begins working.
For example, Republicans are afraid of things like Pelosi will have the commission block any talk about Trump trying to send National Guard troops to help stop the riot but the House Sergeant at Arms refused any help, and the Sergeant at Arms reports directly to the Speaker Pelosi. The Democrats will most certainly try to cover things like that up and the Republicans want all information to be discussed.
Democrats have been spreading Blueanon conspiracy theories about the riot in an effort to silence Republicans while they destroy our country.
McCarthy wrote that Republicans have been duped by Pelosi falsely claiming “in the press that she had delivered Republicans a counterproposal, when in reality her proposal would not surface until weeks later.”
“To be clear, Republican requests for fair representation and an unbiased premise from which to begin such an investigation were always understood to be the starting point for bipartisan negotiations, not the end result,” the statement read.
Pelosi, Schumer, and the rest of the Democratic Party leadership aren’t interested in a fair representation of what happened on January 6. A bunch of angry Trump supporters breached the Capitol building for two-and-a-half hours and the Democrats have been going on calling it an “insurrection” as if they wanted to completely take over the government. The only person who was killed as a direct result of the riot was Ashli Babbitt an unarmed woman, a retired Air Force veteran who wasn’t posing a threat to anyone and was shot and killed by a Capitol police officer who we still don’t know the name of.
McCarthy also cited Pelosi having wasted a lot of time playing political games and that Congressional and intergovernmental agencies worked to do her job for her.
“While the Speaker has wasted time playing political games, numerous Congressional and intergovernmental agency efforts have picked up the slack. There are ongoing bipartisan investigations into all facets of the January 6 events occurring inside the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, as well as the Senate Committee on Rules and Administration. Additionally, the Office of the Architect of the Capitol has been allocated $10 million to conduct a full, apolitical review into ways to remedy any security vulnerabilities that exist in the Capitol complex.”
The GOP minority leader also noted Pelosi’s hypocrisy over what he referred to as the “presence” of “political violence in American society,” such as the “deadly attack on Capitol Police on April 2, 2021.”
“Finally, the renewed focus by Democrats to now stand up an additional commission ignores the political violence that has struck American cities, a Republican Congressional baseball practice, and, most recently, the deadly attack on Capitol Police on April 2, 2021. The presence of this political violence in American society cannot be tolerated and it cannot be overlooked. I have communicated this to our Democrat colleagues for months and its omission is deeply concerning.”
McCarthy went into detail about how others stepped up to take up Pelosi’s slack showing that she isn’t serious about the so-called insurrection but is using it as a cudgel to trash Republicans and especially Trump supporters. You do this and this is what’s going to happen to you.
“The Department of Justice has announced 445 arrests in conjunction with the events of January 6, and expect 100 more arrests to follow,” he pointed out to Pelosi. “The Federal Bureau of Investigation continues to investigate any and all crimes committed that day, and I fully support these individuals being prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
Arthur Schwartz, a Republican operative, took to social media to agree with McCarthy’s arguments against Pelosi’s lopsided proposal.
“Until democrats agree to investigate the months of rioting by Biden voters that destroyed American businesses & cities, every Republican should be in lockstep with McCarthy on this.
@GOPLeader comes out against bipartisan deal on Jan. 6 commission.”

Politico reported a piece headlined “Republicans not sold on bipartisan Jan. 6 commission” saying that Pelosi “has scheduled a vote this week on a deal forged with Rep. John Katko (R-NY) establishing a 10-member commission with subpoena power to investigate the Capitol insurrection.”
Never forget what the word “bipartisan” means to a Democrat. If the Democrats are in the minority, then bipartisanship means that both parties get together and find an amicable and acceptable resolution. But when Democrats are in the majority bipartisanship to them means the Republicans roll over and give them everything they want.
Here’s the kicker. Katko voted to impeach former President Donald Trump who then referred to Katko as a political hack in his CPAC speech. It’s not like Pelosi reached out to Jim Jordan (R-OH) or Louie Gohmert (R-TX). She chose a Trump hater who betrayed his party by rolling over and giving the Democrats exactly what they wanted.
Chairman of the City of Fulton Republican Committee Marc Holliday has also said that he regrets endorsing Katko in 2020:
“It has now been almost three months since Katko took his seat in Congress. I, like many, are disgusted and appalled by how he has voted and held himself in Congress so far. Katko has completely abandoned his base and has ignored the voice of the people who put him where he is.
The people of the 24th District voted out Maffei because of his liberal voting and now we have Katko, who has consistently voted with the Democrats. Katko is voting the same as Maffei would have. If the 24th District wanted a Liberal to represent us, we would have re-elected Maffei.”
