This week, when Idaho Republican Governor Brad Little was out of state, Republican Lt. Governor Janice McGeachin became the acting governor and she took the opportunity to issue an executive order that bans mask mandates in Idaho, even those imposed by local governments.
Governor Little left the state to attend the Republican Governors Association conference in Nashville, Tennessee and was due back in Idaho on Thursday evening. But before he could make it back home, the lieutenant governor decided to take full advantage of her temporarily elevated position of authority. You gotta block tyranny whenever you get the opportunity.
McGeachin took to social media on Thursday to announce her decision.
“Today, as acting Governor of the State of Idaho, I signed an Executive Order to protect the rights and liberties of individuals and businesses by prohibiting the state and its political subdivisions — including public schools — from imposing mask mandates in our state. #idpol”

A spokesperson for the governor told the Idaho Statesman, “The Lt. Gov. did not make Governor Little aware of her executive order ahead of time.”
McGeachin announced last week that she is running for governor, as reported by the Associated Press. As of this writing, Little has not announced if he is running for re-election, and if he decides to do so, he’s going to be hit with a GOP primary challenge.
The outlet reported that “McGeachin is on the far right of the political spectrum in the conservative state, and her order could bolster her support as a candidate for governor.”
It’s fair to point out at this point that the liberal AP considers anyone who is not a RINO or a liberal as far-right when they side on any issue opposite of progressive groupthink. There is no such thing as a conservative. Conservatives must be exposed as extreme so they use the term far-right. And there is no far-left. It doesn’t exist. Just ask them.
“I’ve been listening to people all across the state with the concern about, especially, why are little kids being forced to wear masks in school,” McGeachin told the AP during an interview. “My oath to the Constitution is to protect those rights and freedoms of the individual, and I’ve never supported any type of a mandate on the individual, especially when it comes to health care choices.”
Little has not issued a general statewide mandatory mask order in Idaho during the COVID-19 pandemic, yet some localities and school districts have.
Idaho House Speaker Scott Bedk said “There were no statewide mask mandates,” to the Statesman. “So what you have here is a solution in search of a problem, and it’s political theater.”
“There were no statewide mask mandates,” Bedke told the Statesman. “So what you have here is a solution in search of a problem, and it’s political theater.”
I beg to differ with Bedke. If localities and school districts once pushed mask orders you don’t want to give them the ability to continue it. Forcing healthy people to wear masks is unconstitutional. I don’t know why most politicians can’t understand that.
Governor Little on Friday reversed McGeachin’s executive order with another one saying it was an “irresponsible abuse of power.”
“The action that took place was an irresponsible, self-serving political stunt,” Little said. “Taking the earliest opportunity to act solitarily on a highly politicized, polarizing issue without conferring with local jurisdictions, legislators, and the sitting Governor is, simply put, an abuse of power.”
McGeachin issued a statement on her website.
“I firmly believe that you have the right to make your own decisions about masks, vaccines, and how to raise your children,” McGeachin’s website reads. “You don’t need the government to tell you what to do.”

McGeachin can now run for governor and if she wins, she can reverse Little’s Dr. Fauci appeasing executive order and protect the liberties of healthy people from being forced to wear a mask. Now to have learned the difference between Republicans who believe in liberty and freedom and those who do not.
