Democratic vice presidential candidate and US Senator Kamala Harris (D-CA) argued on Thursday, regarding Jacob Blake’s shooting by Wisconsin police, that black lives have never “been treated as fully human” in America. This is a major party’s candidate for vice president accusing white people she wants to vote for her of being so racist they never treat black people as human.
Does she think Barack Obama wasn’t human, because America elected him to the highest office in the land, twice. Does she think she’s not human, because she was elected to the US Senate. People don’t elect politicians they don’t treat as fully human.
Harris made the comment in a speech that was billed as a pre-rebuttal to President Donald Trump’s appearance at the Republican National Convention which will take place Thursday night. The California lawmaker, specifically, argued recent events, together with Blake’s shooting and the death of George Floyd in police custody, had exposed the harsh realities facing many of the country’s citizens. It would be four years of this kind of rhetoric coming from the White House if Biden-Harris win in November. We went through 8 years of Obama-Biden talking down to the country nearly every day. Do we really want that again?
She won’t mention that all of these horrible things are happening in Democrat-run cities. This is what Democrats always do. They cause problems for segments of our society and then blame America. They have a history of blaming America for things they’ve done. Slavery wasn’t the Democratic Party’s fault, it was America’s fault. Jim Crow laws, segregation, all America’s fault, when in reality, these were problems created by Harris’ party.
“The reality is that the life of a black person in America has never been treated as fully human,” Harris said. “We have yet to fulfill that promise of equal justice under the law.”
“It’s no wonder people are taking to the streets. And I support them,” she said in a different part of the speech. “We must always defend peaceful protests and peaceful protesters. We should not confuse them with those looting and committing acts of violence, including the shooter who was arrested for murder.”
Harris gave her speech as protests and riots have continued to agitate parts of Wisconsin. The mayhem started on Sunday in Kenosha, Wisconsin, when local police shot Blake, a 29-year-old black American man, several times in the back. Based on local media reports, police were responding to a “domestic incident” at the location of the shooting. According to witnesses, Blake was trying to break up a fight between two women as police arrived.
Video taken at the scene went viral on social media, showing Blake walking away from cops as the officers have their weapons drawn. Blake is shown in the video opening the door of his SUV as a police officer attempts to stop him before firing at least seven shots into his back.
We reported since then that Blake admitted to officials that he had a knife on the floorboard of the passenger seat.
After the video of the shooting was posted on social media, protests broke out almost immediately in the city of Kenosha. The protests quickly turned violent, as they often do these days. Several businesses were set on fire and burned to the ground, together with, a local charity. That was on Monday.
The situation only got worse on Tuesday with more looting and violence happening across Kenosha city. One of the incidents caught national attention when a 17-year-old Illinois resident, Kyle Rittenhouse, killed two people and wounded a 3rd with a rifle he was carrying. Rittenhouse, who had identified himself as a supporter of law enforcement, was arrested on Wednesday for the shootings. However, there is evidence that that he fired in self defense.
Rittenhouse has retained attorney Lin Wood, the lawyer who represented Covington student Nick Sandmann after major news networks lied about him and trashed him on the air. Sandmann, like Rittenhouse, was underage when they did it, and it appears that CNN and MSNBC haven’t yet learned their lesson.
Because of how quickly the violence broke out, the Department of Justice has announce it will dispatch federal resources to Wisconsin in an effort to help extinguish the violence. The good-for-nothing Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers, a Democrat, finally asked for federal help.
Democrat governors and mayors are starting to talk down the riots and are asking for help, but is it because they’ve seen the light and realize what they have allowed to continue in their jurisdictions is wrong, or is it because the polling is going against them, and they are finally realizing that riots and burning buildings and clashes with police don’t play well to the American voter? I believe it’s the latter, if for no other reason than because of the decisions they have made since the death of George Floyd where they told police to stand down, allowed statues to be toppled, businesses to be looted and then burned to the ground, police and federal agents to be assaulted. It is my opinion that Democrat leaders allowed the mayhem to go on just to win a national election on November 3rd.
