I said it before, once they run out of people on the right, the Cancel Culture Marxists will start going after their own. This time they went after an academic for simply promoting someone else’s study. His mistake was not knowing that the other person’s study went against the Marxist narrative, and he found himself on the chopping block. In a word, he was canceled.
University administrator and physicist Stephen Hsu was forced to resign from his administrative position at Michigan State University for promoting a study that found no racial bias in police shootings.
The leftist mob is against fact-based studies if they go against their political ideology. I thought the Left was into science?
Hsu, who was the vice president of Research and Innovation at MSU, revealed in a blog post on Saturday that he was accused of racism by the college’s Graduate Employees Union for interviewing MSU Psychology professor Joe Cesario, whose work absolved the police of the cost of systemic racism.
“The Graduate Employees Union alleged that I am a racist because I interviewed MSU Psychology professor Joe Cesario, who studies police shootings,” he wrote. “But Cesario’s work…is essential to understanding deadly force and how to improve policing.”
Leftists want none of that. If even a hint of something you say sounds like it goes against the grain of their tyranny, you’re guilty of racism.
The study, according to The College Fix, found that “the race of the officer doesn’t matter when it comes to predicting whether black or white citizens are shot.”
Cesario’s study went against the Marxist narrative that police are all racially biased when working in communities of color.
Get this. “Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences” (PNAS), the official journal of the United States National Academy of Sciences, editorialized that the two writers of the study, Cesario and David Johnson, had “poorly framed” their article, the same one that made it through three separate levels of editorial and peer review…. wait for it… of the PNAS journal!
The study caught the attention of the leftist mob when the Wall Street Journal published an article by Heather MacDonald titled “The Myth of Systemic Police Racism,” which included the claim:
“The false narrative of systemic police bias resulted in targeted killings of officers during the Obama presidency. The pattern may be repeating itself. Officers are being assaulted and shot at while they try to arrest gun suspects or respond to the growing riots. Police precincts and courthouses have been destroyed with impunity, which will encourage more civilization-destroying violence.”
The MSU communications team was offended (GASP!) with the article and highlighted it in a newsletter that went out on June 9, and later took aim at Hsu for sharing the analysis, which it claims didn’t align with the university’s stance on the police. Do universities now have to have a stance on police?
“It is the union’s position that an administrator sharing such views is in opposition to MSU’s statements released supporting the protests and their root cause and aim,” GEU Vice President Acacia Ackles told The College Fix.
Not long after that, Hsu came under fire on social media where he was accused of sexism, racism, and white supremacy—and everything else under the sun, including the causing humidity.
The attention towards the professor exploded as the student union circulated a petition titled “Fire Stephen Hsu,” which called for him to be removed from his administrative position. It gathered nearly 800 signatures from professors, post-doc researchers, and staff at MSU.
And all because he shared results of a scientific study with the world. He had no ill intentions at all. You know, science?
“The concerns expressed by the Graduate Employees Union and other individuals familiar with Hsu indicates an individual that cannot uphold our University Mission or our commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion,” the open letter read. “Given this discordance with university values, Stephen Hsu should not be privileged with the power and responsibility of recruiting and funding scholars, overseeing ethical conduct, or coordinating graduate study.”
Am I the only one who smells horse hockey here?
Hsu was bullied into resigning shortly after.
Following the canceled campaign, Hsu’s critics celebrated the success of their mission and thanked their supporters for having the “courage to speak out and taking the time to engage with this important work.”
Courage to speak out? Let me get this straight. Leftists are admiring other leftists for sicking a mob on someone who did absolutely nothing wrong.
“I believe this is what is best for our university to continue our progress forward,” said MSU President Samuel Stanley, who praised the campaign.
Folks, DO NOT send your kids to Michigan State University, and if they’re already there find another school pronto. That is not the type of education you want for your kids. It’s academic lunacy.
