The deadly violence in Democrat Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s Chicago seems to be never-ending.
At least 65 people were shot, and 10 died over this weekend in Chicago.
According to NBC 5, the shootings started at 5:30 pm on Friday “in the 8200 block of South Drexel.” Three people were standing on the sidewalk when somebody opened fired on them from inside a vehicle. A “14-year-old boy was hit in the face, a 21-year-old man was hit in the arm and a 27-year-old woman was hit in the buttocks.”
The Chicago Sun-Times reports the most recent shooting occurred Sunday night right before midnight in the 11300 block of South Carpenter Street. A group of people had been standing outside when somebody opened fire, killing a 26-year-old man and a 41-year-old man while three other people were wounded.
During same weekend last year, 43 people got shot, 3 died. The rise in victims this year is indicative of a surging gun violence that shows no sign of going away.
In any case, at least 60 people were shot, 10 fatally, last weekend and at least 70 were shot, 14 fatally, the weekend before that.
It was reported that shootings in the city of Chicago were up 76 percent as of July 10, 2020, when compared to that same time period in 2019.
Lightfoot’s latest suggestion for decreasing the violence was to propose even more gun control. What’s sad is that two-thirds of the gun control measures Lightfoot herself proposed are already on the books, and they’re clearly not working.
65 people were shot with 10 killed back in July of 2017 when Rahm Dead-Fish Emanuel was mayor. This means that the violence problems Chicago has been experiencing transcends administrations because Democrat after Democrat administrations continue to fail the city of Chicago by now allowing law-abiding people easy access to their own firearms. If criminals knew that anyone near them could be carrying a firearm, they might think twice before opening up on targets with the knowledge that an innocent bystander had the ability to shoot back. Violent crime would probably go down 50 percent and practically overnight. But Democrats have shown through multiple administrations that they would rather put up with scores of murders each week than to give up control over law-abiding residents of the city.
Lightfoot didn’t point out that the net effect of county ordinances and state laws means Chicago already has gun owner licensing, an “assault weapons” ban, a “high capacity” magazine ban, a 72-hour waiting period on gun purchases, Firearms Restraining Orders, and de facto universal background checks.
James Madison should be turning in his grave.
