Gun violence has skyrocketed throughout New York City after the NYPD dissolved the police anti-crime unit of plainclothes police officers on June 15, with three times as many shootings within the last two weeks of the month over the same period in 2019, police stats reveal.
Those anti-crime men and women were plainclothes officers that were mixed in with regular New Yorkers. You never knew who they were, and they would just observe life on the streets. If they saw someone going to say, rob an innocent New Yorker, they were right there to thwart the crime. They were highly effective in stopping crime, and they acted as a deterrent as well, because eventually, criminals knew the anti-crime people were on the streets, they just didn’t know who they were.
The stunning rise in gunfire, to 116 incidents from 38 between June 15 and July 2nd, a 205 percent increase, meant scores more victims were hurt or killed by bullets this year over last year.
Gunshot injuries skyrocketed to 157 from 47 in 2019, a 238 percent increase.
Every time progressive Democrats in charge appease criminals, they make life so much more dangerous for the majority of good people who live in their communities. It’s a phenomenon that I can’t figure out, because they just keep voting the same way.
The civil society is eventually going to rise up and demand de Blasio, the worst mayor in New York City history, bring back the police who made a difference, the anti-crime division. The big question will be, will de Blasio be smart enough to listen?
It was the bloodiest month of June since 1996, 24 years ago after the NYPD logged 236 incidents. That was when Rudy Giuliani was cleaning up the streets of New York where the city took a yearly murder rate was 2,245 in 1990 to under 500.
After 205 shootings, it became the most violent June in over 24 years. You have to go back to 1996 when there were 236 incidents.
The big question is, how is de Blasio going to blame Donald Trump?
One victim, Jomo Glasgow, 35, a DJ, was gunned down outside a house party on East 49th Street in Brooklyn on June 17 only two days after Police Commissioner Dermot Shea, a disgrace of a commissioner for going along with it, announced he was scrapping the unit, a group of 600 officers tasked with stopping or preventing violent street crime.
“I feel like we are giving the streets back to the criminals,” Glasgow’s mom, Hazel Thomas, told The Post.
“They shouldn’t have disbanded it,” she said of the anti-crime unit. “Whatever the problem they have, address it. But don’t disband the unit. Many lives would have been saved. Not just my son.”
The unit, once described as “elite” by mayor de Blasio, has a history of success but also controversy. You can’t protect the public from murderous thugs without having controversy. It just can’t be avoided. There are some things that “more training” just won’t fix. Bad people need to be removed from the streets, and they don’t go along quietly.
Its members have been involved in a number of high-profile police shootings and deaths, including the fatal chokehold that killed Eric Garner. Garner, however, had many underlying health problems, including asthma, heart disease, diabetes, and obesity that contributed to his death. I say Governor Andrew Cuomo and de Blasio killed Eric Garner, because they created a special police task force to go after people selling “loosies” to the general public. Thanks to progressive government taxes in New York, the price of cigarettes skyrocketed to the point where working-class people could no longer afford to buy cigarettes. That’s when people like Garner came along, would buy cartons of cigarettes out of state, and cell them by a few at a time. People could afford that, but the store owners in NYC complained to the government that they were complying with the outrageously high taxes on cigarettes, and their business was being taken away from them by the loosie guys who were selling single cigarettes right outside their stores.
Cuomo and de Blasio created the loosie black market, and instead of lowering the taxes on cigarettes to a sane amount, they created a special police task force to go after loosie sellers instead. New York progressive politicians wanted their tax money. The rest is history.
Shea described the group as a relic of the stop-and-frisk period, although he also praised plainclothes cops for “doing exactly what was asked of them.” That was this pathetic loser’s way of saying he didn’t throw the police under the bus after just throwing the police under the bus.
“They have done an exceptional job,” he said during the announcement. “But again I think it’s time to move forward and change how we police in this city.” Yeah, just appease the criminal element. What could go wrong? Shootings skyrocketing in the city, that’s what.
Some saw his decision, which came through the height of the protests against police brutality, as politically motivated, and the results were disastrous for fighting crime in the city.
“Without having this tool it will be much harder to tackle rising felony crimes, ‘shots fired’ jobs and the growing number of illegal guns pouring into the neighborhoods,” said NYPD Sgt. Joseph Imperatrice, a former anti-crime unit supervisor and founder of Blue Lives Matter.
He said members were “disheartened” by the announcement.
The NYPD has blamed the shooting spike on everything but the disbanding of the anti-crime unit. Naturally, because progressive liberals never accept blame for any of the catastrophes they create.
“It’s bail reform,” Shea said on PIX11 this week. “It’s Covid. It’s emptying out prisons. One of the most frustrating pieces right now, is a criminal justice system that just is not working and I’m calling on Albany to fix it. Fix it now. People are dying on the streets of New York City.”
De Blasio, who as lately as 2015 described the anti-crime unit as “elite,” has remained silent on it being dissolved. However when shootings began to climb final month, he vowed that “we aren’t going to permit gun violence to proceed to develop on this metropolis.”
“We’re not going to go back to the days when there was so much violence pervading our communities,” Hizzoner told CBS 2 on June 22, following a week of 53 shootings. However the next week there were 63 more shootings.

If you take nothing else from this story, remember this: you, the people, who live in any mess of a city, you have the power to end it all. You have the power to vote the disastrous Democrats out of office. I’m not saying go and vote Republican, but there must be some Democrats that aren’t as disastrous as de Blasio and Cuomo. Find them, support them, and vote the bums out. You deserve much better than what you have now.
