Unbelievably, Twitter made the argument that a free and open Internet was “an essential human right in modern society.” No, this is not The Onion. They really said that. The announcement confirmed that Twitter is run by a bunch of leftist psychopaths who think it’s the rest of the world that’s nuts. This statement caused an awful lot of people to laugh at the hypocrisy of the worst of the social media tech tyrant censoring mob as they spent the last four years censoring conservative free speech.

The hypocritical moment emanated from a continuing controversy between the tech tyrant Twitter and the Nigerian government after Twitter deleted a threatening tweet that was posted by Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari condemning attacks on public infrastructure in his country’s SW region, attacks like arson on government offices, and setting fire to police stations.

Hey, we had the same thing happen here when Democrats attacked and burned police stations and federal buildings during the George Floyd riots. And Twitter got rid of President Donald Trump who also condemned such actions in Democrat-run cities across the United States. And Trump didn’t even threaten the rioting leftists with bodily harm. Oh, the irony.

“Many of those misbehaving today are too young to be aware of the destruction and loss of lives that occurred during the Nigerian Civil War,” Buhari wrote on Tuesday. “Those of us in the fields for 30 months, who went through the war, will treat them in the language they understand.”

Buhari alluded to the “brutal two-year Nigeria-Biafra war, which killed an estimated one to three million people, mostly from the Igbo tribe in the eastern part of the country between 1967-1970,” CNN reported.

Twitter deleted the tweet written by the Nigerian president, alleging it had violated the platform’s policy on abusive behavior.

In retaliation, the Nigerian government banned Twitter from the African nation. Nice!

“The Federal Government has suspended, indefinitely, the operations of the microblogging and social networking service, Twitter, in Nigeria,” the  Federal Ministry of Information and Culture for Nigeria tweeted Friday night.

On Saturday, the Public Policy division of Twitter said, “We are deeply concerned by the blocking of Twitter in Nigeria. Access to the free and #OpenInternet is an essential human right in modern society. We will work to restore access for all those in Nigeria who rely on Twitter to communicate and connect with the world. #KeepitOn.”

That is hilarious! It warrants a full-bodied laugh, not a snicker or an eye roll, but deep belly laughs where they can hear it in the next state. Imagine Twitter, whose censorship helped push our country on a decline into darkness, is now virtue-signaling on free speech being a human right.

This hypocrisy that their platform is a “human right” started an avalanche of criticism and ridicule of the social media site because of its reputation for censoring conservative speech including Donald Trump when he was President of the United States.

Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX)  responded:

“Curious. In Twitter’s own words, they are willfully denying Donald Trump ‘an essential human right in modern society.'”

Former Trump legal advisor Jenna Ellis asked Twitter a question.

“Are you also deeply concerned about the blocking of Twitter users in America? Asking for a friend.”

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Green (R-GA) tweeted:

“We are deeply concerned by the blocking of @realdonaldtrump by Twitter.

Access to the free and #OpenInternet is an essential human right in modern society.

Unblock President Trump and stop with the hypocritical virtue signaling.”

Conservative author and filmmaker Dinesh D’Souza gave his unique perspective on the situation and as usual was spot on.

“Not sure I understand this. If Twitter can block Nigerians and their elected officials for violating its standards and policies, why can’t Nigeria and its elected officials block Twitter for violating their standards and policies?”

This shamelessly comes from an entity that believes in non-disclosed and unaccountable systems to deny people access to its own platform. Self-awareness is dead. #KeepitOn https://t.co/RQd3RKQuc2

I have never seen such a lack of self-awareness by an individual or company, outside of Fake News hosts like Brian Stelter who trash real news outlets. That’s always funny. But Twitter has cajones the size of Texas.
