Don’t mess with Texas and don’t mess with Gov Greg Abbott whose swift reaction to the Democratic stunt of walking out in order to prevent the bill on election integrity. He is threatening to cut off their salaries. The Texas legislators get just $600 a month and they also get a per diem of $221 a day when they are in session.
Abbott has threatened to veto Article 10 of the budget passed by the legislature. That is the part allotting money to pay the state representatives and Senators. That may not seem like a lot of money but I assure you they want it. If it was me, I’d have the state police arrest the Democrats who walked out and force them back to their jobs. That is if it is within the law. It can be done in other states, it could work here.
I will veto Article 10 of the budget passed by the legislature.
Article 10 funds the legislative branch.
No pay for those who abandon their responsibilities.
Stay tuned.

Article 10 funding for the new year is September 1st and Abbott has until June 20th to veto the appropriation. Paychecks will be received until then since that money has already been approved. After Abbott’s announcement Democrats called him an authoritarian. They actually want to get paid for refusing to do their job? What would happen to you if you pulled that on your boss? If I did that, I would have to stock up on macaroni and cheese and Suave shampoo. To hold me over till my next job.
Although he did not specify the date, he will call a special session of congress. That would mean that all legislators must heed his call.
Similarly, Texas Republican House Speaker Dade Phelan defiantly stated:
“We will be back — when, I don’t know, but we will be back. … There’s a lot of work to be done, but I look forward to doing it with every single one of you.”
The bill — which aims to protect elections against fraud in part by tightening rules surrounding early voting and mail-in voting — has been carelessly criticized by Democrats, including President Joe Biden, as an attempt to restrict voting access for minorities and low-income individuals.
The president lambasted the bill as “un-American” in a statement to the Texas tribune.
“Today, Texas legislators put forth a bill that joins Georgia and Florida in advancing a state law that attacks the sacred right to vote, ” he said. “It’s part of an assault on democracy that we’ve seen far too often this year — and often disproportionately targeting Black and Brown Americans.”
I hate to break up the cry fest but Europe is made up of 47 countries and 46 of them have voter ID laws.
