A woman got a notice from Amazon saying her package had been delivered but when she went there to retrieve it, it wasn’t there. Then she spotted the 21-year-old delivery person Itzel Ramirez. Ramirez told her she would take care of it and the woman returned to her apartment for another fifteen minutes. She then went back out to ask about her package.
Vista Creek Apartments owner Doug Smith recounted to KTVU:
“I believe the Amazon driver said something about ‘your white privilege,’ and my tenant said, ‘You don’t need to be a b—h about it,’ turned around and walked away.”
The delivery driver claimed it was self-defense. Watch this video and decide for yourself:
The woman who was attacked is 67 years old and she suffered injuries. She called 911 and reported the attack. She said she had been struck about the head and face at least 10 times.
It seems to me we’re a culture in need, not of empowerment, but the opposite.
Back to Castro Valley, I don’t know that the customer was particularly kind.
As for Itzel, she was arrested on suspicion of battery causing serious bodily injury and elder abuse — both felonies.
Bail was set at $100,000.
Per the New York Post, Amazon issued a statement:
This (incident) does not reflect the high standards we have for drivers who deliver our packages. We take these matters seriously and this individual is no longer delivering Amazon packages.
High standards — the world could use more of that. And more of the Golden Rule.
There have been a lot of attacks on the elderly recently, especially Asians:

VIDEO OF THE DAYFacebook Finally Loses
I found the wording of the statement by Amazon to be a little bit curious. They stated that she is no longer delivering packages but they did not say she was fired. Did they transfer her to the distribution center or did they let her go, Inquiring minds want to know.
People used to respect the elderly. I remember Luther Smith from my boyhood home of Amesville, Ohio. He was eighty-two and his hearing was shot, He would think he heard something insulting even when you just said hello. He carried a cane and he would hit you surprisingly hard for a man his age. But, no one ever laid a hand on him no matter what he did. We respected his age and his infirmity.
Terry Jago once asked him how he had lived so long and Luther said, “You kids live too fast.” And he was right.
