A man and his wife were relaxing at home when they heard a scream from the bedroom of their 10-year-old daughter. They grabbed their licensed firearms and rushed to their daughter.
Through the window, they saw a drunken man who was touching himself and staring at their daughter. As parents, they must have been angry and scared at the same time. Both parents rushed into their yard to hold the man until the police came.
But, the man ran across the street to a Valero gas station. They followed him and the husband went inside to ask the attendant to call the police. While he was inside, the peeper wrestled the gun away from the woman.
When her husband came outside, he saw the man aiming the gun at his wife and he opened fire, hitting the man three times. He was taken to the hospital, where he was in critical, but stable condition.
The father reportedly told Harris County Sheriff’s deputies that he and his wife told the man to lie down on the grass and wait until the police arrived. That was when he ran across the street. They did not fire at him at that time because they just wanted to hold him for the police. The husband told KTRK that he went inside to have the attendant call the police. Once he came back outside he was in fear for his wife’s life and he did what he felt he had to do to protect her.
The mother, who wishes to remain unidentified, later recalled the terrifying details of the incident to KPRC-TV.
“She looks over at the window and this guy is at her window,” the mother said of her daughter. “I can’t say that he tried to take my daughter’s innocence. He took my daughter’s innocence.”
Then describing what was going through her mind when the suspect wrestled with her in the gas station parking lot, she said, “He is wrestling with me, with my gun, and I’m like, ‘I’m not going to let you get my gun, you are not going to kill me or shoot me.'”
Both parents have legal permits for their guns. His wife explained the struggle she had with the man that led him to have control of her gun. She said he aimed at her and just then her husband returned outside. She explained that they did not want to shoot the man, they were just trying to hold him for the police.
