It should come as a surprise to no one that when Republicans hold a summit of any kind, Donald Trump will be invited.
Despite what you hear from the Dump Trump crowd, President Trump is the only one since Reagan to excite Republican voters because he did what he promised he would do.
He brought us energy independence and kept inflation down. Biden has made us energy-dependent and we have record inflation.
Rep. Jim Banks of Indiana, chairman of the Republican Study Committee, and the other members will be traveling to New Jersey where they will meet with Trump. In 2022 Trump will be a kingmaker.
Those in the House who voted for impeachment are on the endangered species list. Liz Cheney says she is considering running for president but only because she is a masochist.
This will be the first meeting with Trump for some members since he left office. But Banks left little doubt as to who is the leader of the Republican party is. After all, 74 million Americans can’t be wrong. They will be discussing strategy and mapping out where they want to be on the issues.
Banks said:
“At Republican Study Committee, we’ve been very busy as we develop the consensus conservative agenda for the future of the Republican Party, and that agenda is the Trump agenda.”
“We’re looking forward to going up to visit with him to discuss what we’ve been up to and what we plan to do for not just the rest of this term in the minority, but when we get the majority back.”
“At RSC, what we’ve been focused on is really developing an agenda, the traditional conservative issues that RSC has always been involved with: balanced budgets and fiscal responsibility, … strong national defense and pro-life, social conservative issues.”
“Trade issues, Big Tech issues are very important to RSC. We’re very active in that space, confronting the Big Tech’s … censorship of conservatives. We have our election integrity bill that I introduced, the Save Democracy Act. RSC is doing more on the immigration front than it has ever done before, and we look forward to talking to him about that.”
Republicans want to take the majority in the House in 2022 but not only take the majority but to build up as big a majority as possible. For that they need Trump. And remember, replacing Cheney and Kinzinger is the same as a pick-up in my book. The friend of my enemy is my enemy.
The Republicans are in a good position to retake the Senate as well.
