CNN anchor Jake Tapper confronted Secretary of State Antony Blinken Sunday over the mess Biden has made in Afghanistan. I was surprised that he had done so, but I believe he was just having a flashback from when he was a journalist before being promoted to Democratic apologist. But, at least Fox News host Chris Wallace stayed true to form and blamed Trump for Biden’s failure.
Tapper asked Blinken about the imminent collapse of Afghanistan and its similarity to Saigon. Just like Saigon, helicopters had to be sent to retrieve embassy personnel and take them to safety. The Gateway Pundit has published the claim that regular Americans were not airlifted but rather told to hide. In a city being overrun by terrorists? Good luck with that.
Despite the airlifts and the hiding, Blinken denied we were having another Saigon moment. Blinken is either dead wrong or just plain lying. Since he is a Democrat, either one is a definite possibility.
“With this troop surge to airlift Americans out of Afghanistan, aren’t we already in the midst of a Saigon moment?”
Blinken denied that was true and then he claimed the US mission in Afghanistan was successful. He should try telling that to the Americans told to hide. I’m sure that as they wait to be captured, they have that good feeling about the Biden caliphate. While it is true that normally the Taliban would be wise to allow all foreigners to leave in peace, they might not do that because they see Biden as being extremely weak and vulneranle to paying ransom for those left behind.
“No, we’re not,” Blinken responded. “Remember, this is not Saigon. We went to Afghanistan 20 years ago with one mission. And that mission was to deal with the folks who attacked us on 9/11. And we have succeeded in that mission. The objective that we set, bringing those who attacked us to justice, making sure that they couldn’t attack us again from Afghanistan, we have succeeded in that mission.”
“And, in fact, we succeeded a while ago,” he added. “And, at the same time, remaining in Afghanistan for another one, five, 10 years is not in the national interest.”

Tapper followed up by questioning Blinken whether he thinks “Afghanistan now is going to become a hotbed of terrorism.” Blinken responded, “I can’t tell you what the Taliban is going to do.”
