Joe Biden, Nancy Pelosi, and Chuck Schumer have called for a full-court press on the $3.5 trillion Democrats boondoggle. There is more pork in this bill than in one of Anna Navarro’s dresses. And if you think inflation is bad now, it would get a lot worse should this bill pass. There are provisions in this bill that will drive up the cost of gas and electricity through the roof.
The smart money is on the bill dying in the Senate thanks to Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema. But, it could very well die in the House if moderates remember 2009.
It was in that year that Nancy Pelosi assured moderate Democrats that by passing Obamacare, they would assure them of reelection. They voted with Pelosi and of the 38 moderate Democrats in the House, almost all 38 were defeated in 2010. This package could cost many of them their jobs in 2022.
But, in the Senate, Joe Manchin is a thorn in Chuck Schumer’s side. He refuses to put the party ahead of reelection. He says that spending 3.5 trillion will cause inflation to explode. And the debt would become less manageable.
Democratic threats against him could cause him to switch parties and in West Virginia, that would cinch his reelection and it would give the Republicans the majority in the Senate. Even if they can convince Joe to join them, there is also Sinema and Joe knows this.
Axios reported:
Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.V.) has privately warned the White House and congressional leaders that he has specific policy concerns with President Biden’s $3.5 trillion social spending dream — and he’ll support as little as $1 trillion of it.
At most, he’s open to supporting $1.5 trillion, sources familiar with the discussions say.
As the New York Post reported on Tuesday, “Returning to the White House from a visit to New York and New Jersey to survey damage wrought by the remnants of Hurricane Ida, Biden was asked by reporters if he had recently spoken with Manchin about his opposition to the current proposal.”
“Joe, at the end, has always been there,” Biden said. “He’s always been with me. I think we can work something out. And I look forward to speaking with him.”
As The Daily Wire reported last week, Manchin wrote an op-ed in The Wall Street Journal. He explained his stance on the Democratic budget reconciliation plan and called on members to pause the efforts while the country struggles with inflation.
