A Texas mom, with kids in the school at Uvalde, Angeli Rose Gomez, was handcuffed when she originally tried to save her kids at the school. They later took them off and she jumped a fence, entered the school, and saved her kids herself even though she was unarmed. She now says she is being harassed by the police because she did what their police chief refused to let them do.
In my mind, they should be harassing Uvalde School Police Chief Pete Arredondo. He is the one that made them look bad. Gomez just wanted her sons to be safe. You can’t find fault with the officers who just obeyed the orders they were given, but you can’t forgive a police chief who was willing to have his men stand down while the kids were being slaughtered. There’s just no excuse.
Gomez says she has been threatened by telephone who told her that talking to the press could be a violation of her decade-old parole. She continued to talk to the press after the judge told her she had nothing to worry about. She also claims that there has been a police car that has parked near her home that will sit there and flash the cruiser’s headlights at her home.
Gomez says she had to move her children so that they would not be a victim of intimidation and harassment from police. She said:
“Just so my sons don’t feel like they have to watch cops passing by, stopping, and parking.”
Mark Di Carlo, her attorney, said that he was representing about 15 parents of the Uvalde community.
“The fact that [Uvalde School Police Chief] Pete Arredondo wasn’t fired immediately based upon whatever it is, hours of video, from testimonies such as from Angeli, is an indication that there is some sort of what, corruption or wrongdoing,” he said to reporters.
Gomez has been praised for her defiance of police orders in order to save her children on the day of the massacre.
She said that she had been briefly handcuffed by police who were preventing her from entering the school as the gunman was barricaded into a classroom. When she was released she hopped a fence to gain entry onto school grounds twice and saved her children.
