Netflix Fires Major Warning Shot At Its Woke Employees With New ‘Culture Memo’

Netflix is going unwoke. They can’t afford not to. They lost subscribers for the first time in years because the Obama/Rice programming was not appreciated by much of America. To make sure their employees understood that programming will no longer be done by wokeness, they sent out a memo telling employees that if they do not like the changes in the programming, they might be working for the wrong company.

The letter in all likelihood was a warning shot about walkouts like the one they executed over Dave Chappelle. They walked out because they considered one of his monologues to be transphobic. The leader of that walkout was a member of management and he was forthrightly fired. This new memo seems to tell employees that they won’t stop at one next time. They were told that artists such as Chappelle had artistic freedom and employees were not to take any kind of action.

The Netflix memo said:

“Entertaining the world is an amazing opportunity and also a challenge because viewers have very different tastes and points of view. So we offer a wide variety of TV shows and movies, some of which can be provocative. We support the artistic expression of the creators we choose to work with” and that “we let viewers decide what’s appropriate for them, versus having Netflix censor specific artists or voices.”

The Verge reported:

The employee was terminated on suspicion of leaking metrics to the press related to the Dave Chappelle special. Those metrics — about how much Netflix paid for The Closer and how many people it reached — subsequently ended up in a report on Bloomberg. While the employee had shared the metrics internally, they spoke out against the leaks to colleagues, worried they might hurt the walkout movement.

The leaking of internal data is highly unusual at Netflix. While the company prides itself on transparency, employees are told that the culture can only thrive when Netflix data remains internal.

This could be part of a new trend. CEOs could start being held accountable for woke actions that cost shareholders money. Let’s hope that it is.
