Federal prosecutors have subpoenaed some of Cuomo’s top aides as they investigate Andrew Cuomo for deliberately hiding the number of nursing home deaths.
Prosecutors are interested in the material that went into Cuomo’s book. Cuomo used his staff to aid him in writing the book that has now become a joke. But Cuomo pocketed a cool $5.1 million for a book that should now be displayed in the fiction section of your local bookstore.
According to reports, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York in Brooklyn wants contracts and materials that were used to pitch the book to publishers.
I assume they want to see if he pitched the book with artificially low numbers of deaths in the nursing homes being blamed on Cuomo.
The Cuomo administration has had to revise the numbers upwards a couple of times, but, we have no idea what the final numbers will be.
Both Republicans and Democrats have criticized Cuomo over this, so it is not a partisan attack like Cuomo claims. Both believe that Cuomo intentionally fudged the numbers to hide what his orders meant in additional deaths from COVID-19.
Several people who had loved ones who caught the virus in nursing homes that died have accused the order from Cuomo to send COVID patients to nursing homes caused their deaths.
Former federal prosecutor Michael Weinstein told the Journal:
“If reflections memorialized in records and notes are inconsistent with what he was saying publicly or with disclosures to health or government officials, that is potentially problematic.”

The criminal probe is an offshoot of inquiries in 2020 by the Justice Department’s civil rights and civil divisions that sought records on Covid-19 deaths in nursing homes in NewYork and other states led by Democratic governors, The Wall Street Journal has reported. An October letter viewed by the Journal said investigators were looking at possible violations of federal laws including the False Claims Act, which makes it illegal to knowingly submit a false record to the government.
The federal probe is also examining the drafting of a state law that granted civil and criminal immunity to nursing-home operators and whether the state improperly gave priority access to coronavirus testing to people close to Mr. Cuomo.
