Evil, thy name is Democrat. Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-WI) put forth legislation to force the government to rescue the Americans Joe Biden left behind. But, Democrats killed the bill.
I hope everyone remembers this on election day 2022.
How could you not want to save American lives? It is shocking, but for those of us who have covered Democrats for years, it is really no surprise.
The bill would also call for an accounting of all the weapons we abandoned that are now in the hands of the Taliban. The estimated amount of those weapons is believed to be $85 billion dollars. Included in there are Blackhawk helicopters.
Those weapons will be used to secure the Taliban’s stranglehold on Afghanistan and could pop up in terrorist attacks elsewhere in the world.
And of course, we can’t put a price on American lives.
Gallagher said:
“House Democrats have had not one, but two opportunities to join House Republicans in supporting legislation to hold this administration accountable and do whatever is necessary to save lives. Both times, they declined to join our efforts to do so. This is unacceptable. American lives are on the line and we have a moral obligation to do everything we can to get them home. Congress cannot sit on the sidelines while hundreds of our fellow citizens have been left behind enemy lines.”
Specifically, Rep. Gallagher’s bill would:
- Demand a plan from the Biden Administration to bring Americans home,
- Request an accounting of all the equipment left behind,
- Require transparency on any deals or agreements made by the Biden Administration with the Taliban,
- Establish a sense of Congress that that Taliban should not be recognized as the government of Afghanistan, and
- Prohibit any federal funding or sanctions relief to the Taliban.
The bill was offered and Gallagher tried to get it passed by unanimous consent, but it was then blocked by the Democrats.
You really have to wonder why the Democrats would object to bringing Americans home from behind enemy lines or even of the accounting of weapons left to the Taliban.
Or maybe it isn’t so surprising.
It could be that Democrats do not want the American people to know how many Americans or how many weapons Joe Biden has abandoned.
