Hurricane Ida clobbered Louisiana with incredible force on Sunday and the damage was horrific. All electrical power was lost for the entire city of NewOrleansand they cannot use the pumps that drain away the water. It ripped roofs off of buildings, including a hospital. So far only one person has been killed by the storm when a tree was knocked down by the wind and landed on a man. But they expect that number to rise significantly
Hurricane Ida made landfall Sunday at 12:55 P.M near the city of Port Fourchon, Louisiana. The category 4 storm ravaged the coast just as Katrina did 16 years ago. Winds reached speeds of 150 MPH. The National Hurricane Center declared Ida still to be a Category 4 hurricane at 6 PM. The storm surge was fifteen feet at its peak and it led to immense flooding.
FEMA condemned a large portion of my hometown of Amesville, Ohio. They bought all of the houses on the lower part of town and demolished the houses. The land was given to the town on condition that they never all anything built on it, with the exception of the fire department. It might be time to consider doing that to parts of New Orleans, rather than pay for rebuilding them every few years.

Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards said:
“This is not the kind of storm that we normally get. This is going to be much stronger than we usually see and, quite frankly, if you had to draw up the worst possible path for a hurricane in Louisiana, it would be something very, very close to what we’re seeing.”
“Hurricane Ida is one of the strongest storms to ever hit Louisiana. It is our goal to assist our local agencies and the citizens of the state as quickly as possible, and we have pre-positioned search and rescue teams, boats and other assets to begin helping people as soon as it is safe.”

Joe Biden said he will declare a state of emergency just as soon as he talks with his senior advisors to make sure New Orleans is part of the United States. No word yet on whether he plans to turn over security in New Orleans to the Taliban since they did such a remarkable job in Afghanistan.
